About Allan Knox

After gaining a degree in chemistry and working in the oil industry for a short period, Allan emigrated from Scotland to the North West of England, where he worked as Agent for Chris Davies, who becameĀ a Lib Dem MP and MEP. He eventually put down roots in Clitheroe in 1992 and started to play a prominent role in the local community. He co-founded the community newsletter Castle View and between 2005 and 2007 was the town’s mayor. Allan has spent much of the last 10 years working in IT both for Lancashire County Council and for a major internet service provider.

Due to a disability Allan does not drive, but the upside of this is that he is a strong supporter of affordable reliable public transport. Another consequence of this is that it ensures he has a low carbon footprint

As a councillor Allan is well known for his campaigning on the environment and believes that green taxes should be used to help alter people’s behaviour to benefit the planet, not to bring more revenue into the exchequer.

Allan served as Chair of local housing association, Ribble Valley Homes from 2008 – 2014 and for since 2013 he has worked for the social enterprise Salvere, which supports people with social care needs.

Away from the political arena Allan has been a keen golfer since the age of 12 and spends any free time on the gently rolling slopes of Mytton Fold Golf Club.
