Lancashire county gritting latest

snoploughLancashire County Council’s gritting teams have been working round the clock over the weekend to tackle snow and ice on the roads.

In East Lancashire (Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn, Rossendale, Ribble Valley) crews have been working since Thursday on the priority and secondary routes in Pendle. The number of crews working on the priority routes have been doubled and small “quad” type vehicles have been deployed to clear priority footways.

Clitheroe’s County Councillor Allan Knox said: “I have been informed teams have been battling against constant freezing temperatures and regular snow falls which have meant these dedicated drivers have been out time after time to help keep the main routes salted.

“They have also made progress on the less used secondary routes which are salted once officers were confident the main routes had enough salt to stand up to the weather.

“Of course salt is not a magic solution to ice and snow, but the fact that the priority routes have remained useable with care is a tribute to the hard work of county council staff.”

East Lancashire has again taken the brunt of the bad weather. In the rest of the area the crews have been working constantly since Thursday with extra resources, including snow ploughs, being used.
